During the first Zionist Congress in 1897, Theodor Herzl brought up the issue of the creation of a Jewish State. The congress took place in Basel and was attended by Eliyahu Munchik-Margalit, Amos Gitai's maternal grand-father. In 1933, Amos Gitai's father, Munio Weinraub-Gitai, also passed through Basel as he fled Nazi Germany... A journey from Basel to Jerusalem, from Vienna to Haifa, from 1897 to today.
